VINTAGE VERMILION

Cabins & Retreat at Black Bay

The Ojibwe originally named the lake ‘Nee-Man-Nee,’ which means ‘The evening sun tinting the water a reddish color.’

The Cabins & Retreat

A private, serene wilderness setting with only 5 cabins and a common Lodge on 85 acres and 3,000 feet of lake shoreline on the most remote but still automobile accessible area of Lake Vermilion. Just a short drive to the town of Cook. There is a local golf course on the short drive from the town of Cook and it is only an hour’s drive to The Wilderness course at Fortune Bay. However, most guests do not want to leave the place once they settle in. Several restaurants and an ice cream store are located nearby and reached by boat or car. Because it is a smaller venue, you will feel like it is “your place” for your stay. The cabins are all lakeside, none stuck in the back woods. You can one cabin for a get-away or rent several cabins or the whole place for a family gathering or special occasion. Our long driveway through the woods sets the tone for your stay at a real north woods cabin. You are in a for a rare experience. Leave city life and your cares behind.

Experience the Beauty of Northeastern Minnesota

Your cabin time at Vintage Vermilion - Cabins and Retreat will be relaxing. Listen to the lapping of waves and the call of the loons. If you want to stretch your legs and get your heart pumping, explore the rustic walking trails throughout the 85 acre setting, plus a 2 mile long driveway for biking or jogging. Take the kayaks and explore the creek on the eastern boundary of our property - very scenic.

Explore Lake Vermilion and its 365 islands and 1200 miles of shoreline. The National Geographic Society declared Lake Vermilion one of the top ten most scenic lakes in the United States. Fish on! Walleye, Bass, Muskie, Northern, Perch, and Panfish – Lake Vermilion has them all! If you are interested in Lake Vermilion Fishing, we can recommend guides. Bringing your ATV’s or other off-road vehicles? Use on the forest road (our driveway) until you have reached County No. 24 where there are all sorts of former logging roads and trails to ride. These are great hunting roads too: Pheasant, Deer and Bear. All cabins are comfortably and attractively furnished with appropriate cabin décor, significantly nicer than will be found at most housekeeping resorts.
